his work examines how we as a contemporary society view or measure beauty. By framing non-idealized bodies in lace, a timeless symbol of feminine beauty, I attempt to reclaim beauty for all bodies, sizes and shapes. The frames are hung in a salon style display also in conversation with a frame that is almost crowning a pedestal with silicone spilling out from underneath it. This style is pulled from 17th century French Academia to reference a time in history when the image of feminine beauty in painting was also being questioned. The silicone allows me to directly and viscerally reference the body. In contrast, the ceramic allows me to hold a symbol of beauty in time and establish a new framing method. The additive method of stitching the silicone into the ceramic allows me to connect the two materially and conceptually while also referencing a traditional woman's labor and craft.
